This course gives you a thorough grounding in using art in therapy with children, adolescents, adults and families. It covers using art as an assessment tool as well as accessible theory and the practical application of creative Jungian, Gestalt, person-centred and transpersonal ways of working. We will learn by doing some art and clay ourselves in a small group and there will lots of practical advice on working in schools, organisations and in private practice. We will also concentrate on case studies and evidence-based ways of working.

No prior experience of using art is necessary (you don’t have to be able to draw either!) but some experience of counselling would be useful. This course is suitable for trainees as well as counsellors and psychotherapists looking to expand out of ‘talking mode’. The hours can be counted for BACP and UKCP CPD. There is no written work, just the 5 weekends plus 50 hours client work with 6 hours of AIST supervision. There is no deadline to fulfill the hours. All art and clay equipment will be provided. Lunch and refreshments also. All days are 10am-5pm.

The course will be led by Jill Carter MA BACP UKCP who is a Child Adolescent and Family Psychotherapist with fifteen years experience of working with art and sand.
