The small group (of no more than 8 people) will explore through their own drawing and painting ways that a child or adult’s art can help in the therapeutic process. We will also discuss how art can be used as an assessment tool and help gently move on the process of ‘stuck’ clients.

Initially training at CCPE she furthered her passion for\ncreative practice with Advanced Diplomas in Sandplay Studies\, Alchemical Process and Art Therapy at AIST where she also qualified to teach. Dawn has worked in many NHS\, School and Charity settings gaining hands on experience of using creative therapies with Complex Trauma\, Abuse\, Self Harm\, Eating Disorders\, Existential Crisis\, Anxiety and Low Self Esteem issues\, Loss & Bereavement\, Addictive Behaviours and Depression. Currently Dawn runs a private practice in London’s Notting Hill\, works for the charity HELP Counselling\, teaches and supervises for both CCPE and AIST\, and provides in-school counselling for Wetherby Senior\, The Green School and St Pauls Girls School. Dawn is a warm\, relational teacher who uses her experience to guide you through up-to-date examples. Her grounded facilitation through experiential depth work will help you find your own way of using creativity in your practice.

DESCRIPTION:The Alchemical Retreat: \nThe retreat process offers an opportunity to withdraw from the world\, turn within and connect with the deeper aspects of our being. \nThe retreat is intended for all those who wish to develop an increased understanding of themselves; to develop deeper awareness of the Self in relationship – not only in the external world but also in their capacity to relate to the inner Self – and bring a spiritual depth and awareness into their daily life. \nThe retreat is based on the alchemical process of Carl Jung and the spiritual alchemy of Titus Burckhardt developed by the Sufi spiritual teacher Pir Vilayat Khan into group retreat process. \nDuring the retreat we will review the teachings and practice some of the spiritual and meditation methods developed over the past 2\,500 years within some of the world’s great spiritual traditions\, particular consideration being given to the Hindu\, Buddhist and Sufi traditions. \nWhile the retreat process is not in any way linear some general stages may be identified: \nThe initial process involves a combination of practices that focus our attention with increasing awareness on the nature of mind and help us to open up to the spiritual dimension of our being. \nThis process may be followed by a review of the nature of Ego together with meditation practices and visualisations designed to help us let go of false concepts of Self and experience our true nature. \nThis will be followed by a day of quiet reflection in which you will be able to review your qualities\, your life and relationships from a more Heart centered and less Egoic perspective. \nNew insights into the nature of your being bring with them a wider and deeper awareness of your life purpose and your unlived potential. The importance of living your unlived potential cannot be overemphasized. \nIn this next stage the emphasis will be on attuning to our Heart Centre; developing a greater sensitivity to the energy of our true Self and starting to connect with the Goddess within. \nIn the final stage we will start to integrate our understanding of the nature of our being with our experience of the interconnectedness of all life and manifest this understanding in our daily life. This stage extends far beyond the boundaries of the retreat process into the months ahead. \nFor those living busy work and family lives in towns and cities\, reconnecting with nature and the earth is an important part of the retreat process. We request you therefore to bring a tent and camp in the grounds of the house. \nWho should attend:\nAnyone who is currently attending an AIST course\, is a qualified or trainee therapist (in therapy) and wishes to experience a deeper\, guided experiential process that can be offered on retreat. \nAbout John the retreat leader: \nJohn Daly is the founder of Association of Integrative Sandplay Therapists (AIST). After training as a scientist John worked in industry for ten years before moving to the United States where he studied counselling psychology from a transpersonal perspective at JFK University in California. He subsequently worked as a psychotherapist and lecturer in San Francisco and London. He has lived and worked in India for several years and travelled extensively throughout the Himalayan regions of Nepal\, India and Bhutan. He studied with Hindu\, Buddhist\, Sufi and Christian mystics in India and in the West \nDetails and Timings: \nDates: This is a five day\, silent\, group retreat in nature.\nStarting in the early morning of Monday 12th August through to the afternoon of Friday 16th August finishing at 4pm. \nDay 1 & 2 7am to 8pm\nDay 3 Quiet Contemplation\nDay 4 7am to 8pm\nDay 5 7am to 4pm \nArrivals: Please arrive on the afternoon (3pm onward) of Sunday 11th of August 2019. This will give you time to set up your tent and attend the introductory/orientation session at 7pm. Refreshments and supper will be provided. \nMeals: Three vegetarian meals a day will be provided (please let us know if you are vegan or have any allergies).
